    Airport Pick Up

It can be a challenge to pick up an arriving passenger at an airport.  Before cell phones I remember trying to help a friend out by picking her up at the airport.  I drove around and around in circles because I couldn’t stop in front of a door for too long before someone would come up behind me and I needed to get out of the way.  I was just hoping that I was at the right door to pick her up and I wasn’t even sure if her flight was on time.  What a mess!  Eventually I did find her and it all worked out.

Fresno Yosemite Airport has a Cell Phone Waiting Area for guests to use while waiting to pick a passenger up.  You can park your car and wait until the passenger calls you to let you know they have landed and where exactly you can meet them to pick them up.  This handy area allows the motorist to wait in a safe area instead of driving around in circles.

The FYI airport’s Cell Phone Waiting Area is open 24 hours a day and has 12 spaces.  Drivers are allowed to remain in a space for a maximum of 60 minutes and the driver must stay with the vehicle at all times.  The Airport Police monitor the use of the lot.  This waiting area is located east of the terminal on the north side of the entry road.

If the Cell Phone Waiting Area is full another option for picking up an arriving passenger is to park in the short term parking lot.  There is a fee of $1.00 for up to 20 minutes and $2.00 for 20 to 40 minutes.

Thankfully gone are the days of driving around in circles at the Fresno International Airport.

    Fresno Airport Security

Getting through an airport and to your terminal is no longer the quick walk from your car to the gate that it used to be. Airport security is at an all time high with more strict requirements than in the past. The Fresno Airport is no different, public safety is on the top of everyone’s mind. Fresno Yosemite Airport follows the regulations established by the TSA.

In order to make your trip through the airport a little easier follow these tips:

    • Arrive at the airport on time. It is recommended that you arrive at the airport two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight.
    • Be prepared to take all metal items such as keys, loose change, and cell phones out of your pockets before walking through the metal detector. The less you have in your pockets the more quickly this can be done.
    • You will have to remove your shoes so they can be scanned by security to ensure that they haven’t been altered. It is recommended that you wear slip on shoes that can be removed and put back on quickly and without the need of sitting.
    • You will also need to remove belts, big coats, hats and big jewelry at the checkpoint.
    • If you have a child in a stroller, be prepared to place the stroller on the belt to go through the X-ray machine and carry your baby through the metal detector with you.
    • Your carry on bag will have to go through the X-ray machine too. If you pack in an organized manner and remember to keep all gels, liquids, and aerosols in a clear plastic bag and meeting the size requirements you will get through more quickly.

Remember, everyone who is traveling by plane in the United States has to go through the security checkpoints. It is for your safety as well as the safety of the nation that these security measures have been put in place. Plan ahead and be patient and the process will be more smooth.
